School Year 2021-2022 Overview
During SY 21-22, all students will have access to free breakfast and lunch meals! Breakfast will either be grab-and-go at the entrance, delivered to the classroom, or in the cafeteria, depending on the model selected by each school. Supper/snack will be available at eligible school sites.
Food & Nutrition Services will continue to operate a limited number of open meal sites throughout the district. Starting Monday, August 30, DC youth 18 years and younger or parent or guardians on their behalf, are eligible to receive multiple-day meal kits from one of the following locations, every Monday and Wednesday from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM:
- Columbia Heights Education Campus
- Dunbar High School
- Ron Brown College Preparatory High School
- Ballou High School
DCPS will continue to fulfill dietary accommodations for both virtual learners visiting open meals sites and on-campus learners at their school. Once a dietary accommodation form has been submitted (form information here) either a Food & Nutrition Services, SodexoMAGIC, or DC Central Kitchen staff member will follow up with the parent/guardian to coordinate meal accommodations.
Though all meals will be served free of charge for DCPS students learning in school and at open meal sites for SY 21/22, we encourage families with children who do not attend a CEP school to complete the Free and Reduced Meal (FARM) application to ensure eligibility for other programs, such as P-EBT. More information on FARM can be found here. Paper FARM applications can be picked up and submitted at any open DCPS meal site or in the office at non-CEP schools.
For additional meal resources, DCPS encourages families to visit coronavirus.dc.gov/food for more information including free grocery sites and more.
